[Geass Spoiler Warning]

The back of his neck and shoulders were raw with a burning ache as he pulled the mask away from his face. A rush of cool air hit his skin and he breathed deeply of the sweet against his lips.

It was heavy, that mask. It was the abyss that stared back at him, from reflective surfaces, windows and eyes. All of them showed who he was, Zero.

There was no mirror in his room; he had made sure of that. There had been one at first but he had taken it away. If he was going to do this, he had to do it completely, and so he never allowed himself to see what the rest of the world could not see either. He had no idea how he looked now, he had been cutting his own hair and it was probably a mess. He was always wearing that mask, or trapped in that room, so his skin was pasty and pale.

He remembered his name, but hadn’t said it out load in a long time.

There was a name he said many times though, as he stared at the other mask in the room. Black, smooth and circular with bloodstained fingerprints caressing the surface. It was out on display, opposite his bed and always watching over him.

“Lelouch,” Zero smiled, removing his cape and letting it drop to the floor. “I’m home.”
